ORIENTAL PUNK / EVENINGWEAR 5

This is a fall/winter 2008 collection, designed in July. The main inspiration is Karen, lead singer of the "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" who wears wild rock costumes on stage and in the media. Karen is part Korean, but carries a punk image and aesthetic in the bands music and performances. Her nationality and image inspired me to do a traditional asia meets punk look for all garments. This collection is definately avant garde, but translates as cohesive and on point with the trends and predicted trends of fall/winter 2008 among all other designers.

The 4 daywear peices are a mix of russian and Mongolian fused with punk. 4 Eveningwear peices are a mix of more eastern asia like Japan and China fused with punk and gothic romance. Kayako, from the movie "The Grudge" inspired the mood and look of the models makeup, hair and presentation.

Trends this season include voluminous sillhuoettes again, black and gray, patent leathers, metallic silver, big sleeves, fur trimmed sleeved coats, Plaid, thick heels, and panty hose. All of this is evident in this collection.

I had planned to do only 8 outfits for this avant-garde RTW collection, lol...but couldn't resist wanting to do some type of gown to finish it off. It was difficult thinking of how a "gown" would look from this, but I think I pulled it off the right way and it looks like it fits right in somehow.

The gown has draping above the bust fabricated in navy blue satin brocade. It curves around the body showing the women's beautiful shape again, and I trimmed it with huge beaver fur pelts running like a muff around the body and on the floor. The sleeves are long chains again, and add an interesting movement to this heavy gown.

The collar keeps it mysterious since it almost covers the mouth like the other collars had, and the umbrella I made a little bigger.
